My first experience with service learning was intriguing. All its teachers and staffs seemed very sociable and dedicated towards providing their students with the right amount of help needed. Yesenia A. Montenegro, who conducted the orientation, gave me a wealth of information about their program. She also got into details about the tutor support and activities there that’s designed to supplement and accommodate their students such as “Power Hour”, “Academic Enrichment”, “Arts & Crafts”, “Game room”, etc. When Yesenia gave a brief description of CLC’s surroundings the one that sparked my interest was UCC and its Fitness Room. UCC’s Fitness Room’s guest price is $2; low enough for individuals of all social classes. It also provides a daycare for the parents who needs to workout but don’t have a babysitter.
Another sociable person there was Maria Espinosa. She informed us that their school, compared to Tech High School and South Division, was always on the news because of something positive. This gave me more ambition in becoming part of this program because now I want to take the success and reputation they’ve already earned and propel.
In doing this project I plan on capturing all the essential aspects of the school like its staffs, teachers, and students. While doing this I will take each individual under consideration and ask for their consent; if I get disallowed I will respect their privacy. I also plan on taking pictures of the school itself which holds everything together. Besides capturing pictures for my presentation I also hope I get more experience with mentoring children.
